For the Project Silver build for Shape Corp, KCS Contracting worked as the general trades contractor. The total project size for Project Silver was $45MM and involved Shape Corp.’s expansion of their new 322,000 square foot aluminum extrusions manufacturing plant. 50,000 square feet of the space were high-end offices with several pods throughout the manufacturing area. Our package included exterior finishes, interior finishes, and flooring totaling $5,582,478 over a 15-month period.

Achieving Deadlines on a Fast-Paced Schedule
Deadlines for the manufacturing of frames needed by General Motors in the new electric Hummer created a fast-paced schedule of 15 months. KCS worked closely with the architect, engineers, and other major contractors on the job from the beginning, helping with input on schedule, the submittal and approval process, and throughout the entire construction phase to ensure timely completion.

Overcoming Scheduling Hurdles to Ensure Timely Completion
Manufacturing equipment was installed and tested while construction was ongoing. During equipment setup, the entire manufacturing area was painted, including all exposed ceilings and color-coded piping. As a result, certain zones needed temporary walls constructed to coordinate with other trades working in adjacent areas. Specific areas were completed at night and on weekends to accommodate other trades’ time restraints

Steps to Ensure Onsite Safety
Our safety policy and monthly meetings of continuous education helped us to achieve no workplace injuries or lost time injuries by any trades on Project Silver. KCS takes pride in our safety record, with an Experience Modifier Rate (EMR) of 0.47.
